(October 2023) This presentation was given at the Permian Workshop by Munkhbayar Baasandorj of Chevron. It starts by providing an overview of the framework estimate methane emission duration using operational data developed by Chevron’s Shaun Higgins, Arsineh Hecobian, Munkhbayar Baasandorj, and Adam Pasci (Download here: A practical framework for oil and gas operators to estimate methane emission duration using operational data)

The presentation then explores comparing time trends of continuous monitors and SCADA, concluding, in part, that changes in wind direction can cause what is released and measured to look differently and that there is uncertainty associated with measured quantification. It follows this with a comparison of aerial survey and operational data to constrain duration

It concludes with some key takeaways including that advanced methane detection technologies and operational monitoring are complimentary and are part of a framework to detect, estimate, and mitigate emissions. And provides high level benefits to each approach.
